It has been a privilege serving the Huntly College Community for the past 5 years as your Board Chair and I would be honoured to continue to represent our community as a parent representative on the Huntly College Board of Trustees.
I have a very good understanding of Governance and Management and the expectations as a Board member. I own and operate an Early Childhood Centre in the Huntly Community which allows me to work with our community in a different realm. I thoroughly enjoy working alongside our tamariki, parents, staff, management, whanau and wider community and believe and understand that relationships are extremely important for our children to succeed.
I believe that my skills and experience as an educator and business owner allow me to support the Huntly College Vision, Values and Strategic Drivers. I would love the opportunity to continue serving our school and community, driven by my passion for making a positive difference in our community.
My name is Darren Ussher and I am standing for Huntly College School Board.
I have been on the Huntly College Board of Trustees for the last three years and in that time I have been on the Finance, Property sub committee's and I am currently deputy chairperson.
Finance, always a struggle but with being part of the Turn Around Schools it has helped. With changes in our curriculum we are looking forward to our roll growing again which will in turn help the college financially. Property, again a challenge with a large number of classrooms and a small roll it has been difficult to allocate 10 and 5 year property money but we have been able to keep maintenance up to a good standard.
Over the next 2 to 3 years you are going to see some awesome changes around our school, and if I am re elected would like to continue in my rolls to see the college grow and become a place the community can be proud of.
A bit about me, I have lived in the Ohinewai and Huntly communities for the last 23 years with my wife Gillian and two daughters Emily and Hannah. Both daughters went to Ohinewai Primary and Huntly College and enjoyed what both had to offer whether it was education, sport or cultural.
Both were and are head students at primary and secondary school and Emily is her second year at Waikato University studying Sport, Health and Human Performance.
Both have played all sports that are available and enjoyed winning gold and silver medals in waka ama and going from D grade at Uniss to B grade and staying in B grade last year just to mention a couple of high lights, there have been many and also the people they have met and friendships they have form for many years to come. Where possible or needed I have help coach or manage with there teams and I am Hannah's netball manager /van driver again this year.
So if I am re-elected it would be an honour to represent you on the Board for another three years.
Kind Regards
Darren Ussher
